Terms of service
These terms set out who can use StudyLock, what the service does and does not promise, and how billing, changes, and account suspension work. They cover the marketing site, the parent dashboard, and the Chrome extension a parent installs on a child's own device.
What do these terms cover?
These terms of service ("terms") govern access to and use of StudyLock's marketing site, parent dashboard, and Chrome extension, together called "the service." Creating a StudyLock account, or installing the extension, means accepting these terms. The privacy policy explains separately what data the service collects and how it is handled.
Who can use StudyLock?
The service is built for a parent or legal guardian to manage focus schedules and website blocking on a child's own device. An account holder must be an adult with the legal authority to make these decisions for the child whose device is paired. StudyLock does not knowingly offer accounts to a child acting alone, and a child does not need a separate account to be managed under a parent's profile.
What does StudyLock provide, and what does it not promise?
StudyLock provides tools to block or allow websites, set focus schedules, and review aggregate usage on a paired device, managed from the parent dashboard described on the features page. A Chrome extension is software running on a device the account holder controls, and it can be removed, disabled, or reset by anyone with access to that device. StudyLock is upfront about that limit — it aims to make removal or tampering visible so a parent can notice and respond, rather than promising a lock-down it cannot deliver.
What is an account holder responsible for?
- Keeping login credentials confidential and not sharing an account outside the family it was created for.
- Having the legal right to make blocking and monitoring decisions for the child whose device is paired.
- Using the service only for lawful, personal, non-commercial focus and blocking management of a child in the account holder's care.
- Keeping the paired device's operating system and Chrome browser reasonably up to date, since outdated software can affect how the extension runs.
How does billing and cancellation work?
Current plans and pricing are listed on the pricing page; that page states the price and billing period in effect at signup. A paid plan renews automatically for the selected billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund periods already paid for, except where a refund is required by law.
Who owns the service and its content?
StudyLock's extension, dashboard, logos, and written content remain the property of [Legal entity TBD] and its licensors. Using the service grants an account holder a personal, non-transferable right to use it for its intended purpose; it does not transfer ownership of any part of the service.
Can these terms or the service change?
StudyLock may update these terms, or change, add to, or remove features of the service, over time. When a change is material, the "last updated" date above moves and, where practical, an account holder is notified through the dashboard or by email before the change takes effect. Continued use of the service after a change takes effect means acceptance of the updated terms.
What happens if the service is unavailable or something goes wrong?
The service is provided "as is." StudyLock works to keep the dashboard and extension reliable, but does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, that every website will be correctly categorized, or that a paired device will always be reachable — a device that is offline keeps enforcing its last saved rules rather than falling open, but cannot receive new instructions until it reconnects. To the extent permitted by law, StudyLock's liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount actually paid for the service during the period giving rise to the claim.
When can an account be suspended or ended?
StudyLock may suspend or end access to the service for an account that violates these terms, that is used in a way that puts the security of other account holders at risk, or where required by law. An account holder can stop using the service and delete their account at any time from within the dashboard; deleting an account removes the family's stored profiles and rules as described in the privacy policy.
What law governs these terms?
These terms are governed by the laws applicable to [Legal entity TBD], the operator of StudyLock, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute not resolved informally is subject to the courts with jurisdiction over [Legal entity TBD].
How can an account holder contact StudyLock about these terms?
